THE MLK LIVING MEMORIAL

Over the course of 10 years, The Inner-City Muslim Network (IMAN) led the community-driven creation of the very first permanent memorial to Dr. King and the Chicago Freedom Movement in the state of Illinois. Uniting a citywide Planning Committee representing over 40 different institutions, foundations and community partners that oversaw the development of the MLK Living Memorial Project. The MLK Living Memorial Project was supported by a diverse cross-section of funders: leading philanthropies, corporations, community organizations, individuals and religious institutions.

THE JOURNEY TO JUSTICE CONTINUES

The MLK Living Memorial Project transformed the narrative of Marquette Park during one extraordinary weekend that included the historic 1000 Mile March, Takin’ It to the Streets festival, and the unveiling of the MLK Living Memorial. As we reflect on this powerful legacy and celebrate our collective successes and struggles, we are reminded that the journey to justice should never be taken for granted and is never over.
